GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director of Youth Development, the School Age Program Director is responsible for developing and administering school age and family programs. This includes, but is not limited to the Before & After School Program, special events, and development of other community-based programs for school age participants for the Center in accordance with Association goals, objectives, and policies. The Program Director must understand their role in helping build relationships and continue program development on the west side of Indianapolis.

 

KNOW HOW

This position requires a degree in child development, early childhood, recreation, elementary education/ related field, or its equivalent in related experience, and a minimum 2-3 years previous professional experience, working with school age children specifically, in YMCA or similar agency is vital to the success of this position. Applicant must have basic programming skills with special emphasis on school age youth and family activities. The ability to relate to all age groups is essential. Experience with volunteers, fiscal management, and program development is also important. The need exists to be current with community trends.

Due to the diversity of responsibility, a high degree of organizational ability is needed. Strong skills are necessary in supervision, management, income production, expense control, public relations, promotion, public speaking, communication skills, fund-raising, grant writing and record-keeping.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops administers and controls the designated budgets, including meeting income targets and expense control, in consultation with the Senior Director.
  • Selects, trains and supervises paid and volunteer department staff.
  • Interprets Association goals, objectives and policies to the community and constituency.
  • Evaluates programs and recommend changes based on compatibility with the Center and Association goals. Is responsible for the development of new program thrusts.
  • Guides assigned Center committees in formulating policies and programs consistent with Center and Association goals.
  • Shares responsibilities for Center/program supervision, public relations, program development, planning and promotions as agreed.
  • Assists the international aspect of the Association including World Service education and fundraising.
  • Evaluates performance of department personnel on an annual basis.
  • Supervises and is accountable for care and maintenance of department equipment and facilities.
  • Shares responsibility for providing income through membership fees and special subsidies.
  • Assists in the annual Y for All campaign.
  • Directs and organizes department program activities compatible with Center and Association goals.
  • Involved with other community groups in identifying and responding to community needs and issues.
  • Assists with any other projects or activities as assigned.
