JOB SUMMARY


The Cellar Supervisor reports to the Winemaker and is responsible for the direction and supervision of the day-to-day cellar operations such as communicating work assignments, training subordinates on all shifts to meet daily production needs in a safe and effective manner.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates and implements daily cellar, crush, and fermenting activities such as supervision and training of work crews and scheduling job assignments
  • Supervises all cellar activities including sanitation, sweetening/fortifying, crushing, all methods of wine filtration, fermenting, and finished wine for bottling and bulk shipments
  • Must be able to learn and effectively train others on all work processes and paperwork in accordance with SOPs and hold individuals accountable as necessary
  • Monitors performance of all cellar employees and communicates any changes, concerns, or issues with the other departments within the management team
  • Ensures compliance with all personnel procedures and policies for safety and HACCP
  • Responsible for the training, development, counseling, safety, and discipline of assigned staff
  • Check items received, locate in appropriate storage area(s) and complete proper documentation. Maintain cellar supplies inventory and reorder as needed.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of all cellar documentation and records
  • Recommend changes in work methods, processes, and equipment to reduce costs and/or improve the quality of the product
  • Create process orders for work assignments and wine processing, and enter into JD Edwards when completed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess at least 3 years of experience working within a winery
  • 5 – 7 years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of HACCP or other food safety standards and requirements
  • Knowledge of OSHA required safety procedures such as lockout/tagout, hot-works, and confined space entry
  • Proficient in MS Office and knowledge JD Edwards application preferred
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently within set guidelines
  • Upon assignment, the Company may require First Aid, CPR, AED, Emergency Responder and/or other certifications as necessary
  • Strong knowledge of production/manufacturing operations
  • Provide good verbal and written communications to all levels of management, both internally and externally
  • Prioritize while able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in team/crew environment, adherence to all safety regulations and operating procedures


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Primary work environment is on a concrete floor in the cellar/production departments
  • Position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in a production environment
  • Occasionally lift up to 50lbs
