Group Product Manager

The group product manager takes ownership of strategy across one or more Watermark’s product lines. They lead a small team of junior product managers and product owners to execute the strategy for the product line. They interface with various cross-functional teams during the entire product lifecycle and must exercise a high degree of autonomy to ensure alignment to strategy. The Group Product Manager also acts as a thought leader and seeks out and develops close relationships with key strategic clients. They work as part of larger initiatives to ensure visibility on KPIs and respond to trends in order to maximize our ability to deliver client value. They also work with other product leaders in the development and execution of the portfolio strategy and ensure customer use cases can be supported across the entire portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, gather, and lead research on competition, alternative offerings, and market trends across product lines; Synthesize findings from all signals to optimize decision making

  • Lead the development and execution of product specific, and where applicable, cross-portfolio strategy that spans the across products, advocating for the optimal investment of resources to realize the potential of the roadmap

  • Develop business cases for new opportunities; optimize between in-house investment and partnering in decision making

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across product lines on execution of the product strategy that optimizes work across product lines, and ensures visibility and collaboration

  • Lead the development and implementation of the product roadmap across one or more product lines and across multiple agile teams; Ensure roadmap is aligned with portfolio vision, business objectives, market needs, and competitive environment

  • Lead and mentor product owners and product managers to ensure successful delivery of roadmap; act in the role of product owner as required

  • Incorporate strategies to counter and mitigate risks and threats in all plans; drives these strategies proactively at all levels

  • Collaborate with design and engineering to solve customer and business problems with high complexity and uncertainty, ensuring creative solutions with opportunity for greatest ROI

  • Collaborate in the development and execution of go to market plans, working proactively and across all stakeholders to anticipate needed communication and planning from a product perspective

  • Participate in product positioning and pricing strategies, support cost reduction, margin analysis, and forecasting

  • Drive initiatives to gather strategic feedback and improve all aspects of the portfolio - from product features, to client satisfaction, to services, to sales, to support

  • Develop strategic relationships with clients and partners in order to better inform and guide additional product and portfolio capabilities to meet market needs

  • Track and report on key metrics, including P&L, that inform product and portfolio success

Required Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in product management with progressive expansion of responsibility

  • 3+ years of experience in the Higher Education industry and/or closely related EdTech field

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or related field or equivalent work experience

  • Excellent ability to work with a wide range of functions ranging from business experts to developers

  • Excellent understanding of the SaaS software business environment

  • Past experience building a robust and successful product strategy leveraging agile delivery principles

  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in driving product growth and improvement informed by data on market and users trends

  • Skilled at working with cross functional groups in multiple geographies

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions

  • Ability to manage and maximize the value of partner relationships

  • Experience developing business cases and making decisions on areas of investment to advance product strategy

  • Excellent ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments

  • Excellent written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and the proven ability to influence and communicate effectively
